If you have a NADAC PLAYER, you may skip the NAS completely and just buy a large USB drive. Cheaper, great storage options, upgradable, and less complex.

When Playing file from or via Roon what are the default channels layouts?
Depending of the tracks channel count. Roon will by default play those at such channels layput.
2.0: L R
5.1: L R C LFE SL SR
7.1: L R C LFE RL RR SL SR
Roon offers in its Settings parameters to invert some of those channels if you require a different layout.
