Pyramix 15.0 installation notes

  • Important note: Make sure you uninstall previous Pyramix version before installing Pyramix v15.0 Release

  • Pyramix 15.0 Hotfix runs on the new Pyramix 15.0 keys.

  • Pyramix 15.0 Hotfix 2 runs on RTX64 4.5.4 version. A MassCore Runtime update mandatory for MassCore users.
The RTX64 4.x license is only available in Pyramix 15.0 keys (or above).

  • The Pyramix 15.0 installer comes only as a 64bit version (64bit OS)

  • Pyramix 15.0 users must refer to the Pyramix Installation Guide V15.pdf

  • Before you perform a Windows major version update on a system already running a MassCore, it is important for users to remove MassCore from the MT Security MassCore tab prior to performing a system update.
Take note that when selecting uninstall MassCore you will need to reboot your system as the uninstallation is completed during the system reboot.

    Note #1
We highly recommend users to defer the Windows updates, so that it does not harm your system here for details on how to defer updates on Windows 10  or on Windows 11
Windows 10 and 11 users should never update to Beta Windows version or major new updates before making sure they are supported by Merging.
    Note #2
Users wanting to perform a Windows version update must follow the procedure here  Windows Configuration Guide
Users that apply Windows updates must refer to the Merging Compatible Windows updates here  Once you have updated your Windows, follow the Pyramix and MassCore installation.

  • Windows Core Isolation – Memory Integrity is not supported by the Safenet driver, Discwrite Optical Drive driver (Gear) and MassCore (see Windows Configuration guide below)
MassCore users: Masscore is not compatible with the Memory Integrity feature, it has to be disabled.
Native - Sentinel Safenet users: a new driver can be installed manually, compatible with the Memory Integrity feature.
Knowledge Article - Thales Support Portal

  • A Cloud Security (dongle-less) is available since Pyramix 25th Anniversary

  • Pyramix 15.0 Projects are not backward compatible with Pyramix 14.x, users must perform a “Save Special as v14.0” in order to open such project in Pyramix 14.
New features such as ClipFX are not backward compatible.

  • The VB Plugins (VS3) are legacy; while it is still possible to use those plugins, there will be no more active development or support.
We do not recommend using such plugin as it can bring instabilities in Pyramix v15.

Take note that when selecting uninstall MassCore you will need to reboot your system as the uninstallation is completed during the system reboot
If you are planning to update your Windows, it is required to first remove MassCore before performing the update. In such case follow the procedure document
    https://merging.atlassian.net/wiki/display/PUBLICDOC/Windows+Configuration+Guide
Updating Windows 10 to Windows 11 is potentially risky, please make a full backup of all your data before performing such update.

  • If your Pyramix system never had a MassCore version before, users will have to install the MassCore Runtime from the MT Security Settings > MassCore tab.

Flux Plugins

  • With the release of Pyramix 15, Flux Plugins will no longer be included in any software pack for new customers. If you are purchasing Pyramix for the first time, Flux Verb and Studio will not be integrated by default.
However, existing users upgrading from a previous version via ASM can continue using Flux Verb and Studio. While these plugins will remain functional, they will not be adapted to the new graphical enhancements. You will still be able to update them via the Flux Centre when new versions become available.
Please note that owners of other VS3 Flux Plugin Packs will now require iLok authentication to be recognized and function properly. This transition scheme will be provided free of charge.
This change ensures compatibility while maintaining a seamless transition for long-time users upgrading to Pyramix 15.

New with Pyramix 15.0

New MassCore RTX Implementation

Pyramix 15.0 introduces a new RTX implementation (NAL).

  • The MassCore Network card is no longer used directly but through a RTX Virtual Adapter.
The card is no longer displayed in the Device Manager as a “Merging Technologies PCIe 82574L Ethernet Controller”, but is converted to "Intel 82574L Gigabit Ethernet Controller (RTX64)" and "Merging Technologies Primary Ethernet Controller".
When a MassCore Network card is detected, the MassCoreNIC Service will convert it automatically to the new scheme.  This operation can take a bit of time, so the 1st time the system sees a card that needs conversion, it can take 1-2 mins until it’s usable.

  • Once the MassCoreNIC card has been properly converted to the new scheme, the physical card (below in blue) will show as disabled, and is replaced by the virtual Merging Technologies Primary Ethernet Controller (below in green).

  • The Merging Technologies Primary Ethernet Controller (and / or Secondary)  is the one used for TCP/IP communications.
If a Static IP has to be used, it has to be set on this adapter.

  • New MSC NIC Card Support (1Gb Network card, based on Intel i210 PCIe)

  • ST2022-7 Mode (requires 2 MassCore NIC cards of the same model)

Clip based Effects

WARNING: in DXD projects, it is known that Clip Based FX generates loud noise if used on DSD medias (also DSD128-256)

The new clip based FX is a new TAB the is available via different ways:

  1. Right click on the clip and got to clip based FX

  2. Go into the menu View/Editor Tabs/Clips FX

  3. Directly in the TAB

Clip based FX tab functionalities

Clip based FX is following the clip group paradigm within Pyramix; when applying a clip based FX to a group clip, it will apply it to all the clips.

Freeze function is available to safe processing. Be aware that the freeze will generate automatically an audio file containing the FX (or multiple FX’s) including the gain, phase invert etc.
By clicking unfreeze it will come back to its original status and one may modify the FX’s.

When a clip group has one or more FX and ungroup is performed the following popup will asks how the individual clips shall behave.

Applying Clip based FX on multiple clips is only possible if all clips have the same length

How to insert a plugin

One can insert a VS3, VST or VST3 plugin including an ARA2 plugin.
It will automatically add it at the bottom of the list, reordering can be achieved by clicking the arrow. The X is to delete the plugin (undo is available)
The ARA2 plugin must always be the first one.

ARA2 support

Once the plugins are properly installed, authorized and the VST3 folder is mounted in the general settings under VST Plug-ins settings, ARA2 plugins can be inserted via the Clip Based FX TAB under VST3 such as any other plugin.
Right click on the clip and select ARA2 will open the plugin directly and insert it in the clip based FX TAB
Following plugins have been tested:

  • Celemony Melodyne

  • Auto Align Post Sound Radix

  • Auto Align Sound Radix

ARA Monitoring Mixer plugin

The ARA Monitoring plugin is available in the mixer, allowing to monitor the direct output from the ARA plugin without playing back.
For example, you can monitor changes in Celemony Melodyne without playing back in Pyramix.
The ARA Monitoring should be placed on the mixer strip matching the clip track.
Right click in the Mixer Effects section to add the ARA Monitoring.
