Pyramix/Ovation panner uses a simple amplitude algorithm with two options:

  • The Virtual mode which is a 3D extended version of the square root or sin/cos used for traditional stereo left/Right panning. It ensures that when focused on one speaker, no other speakers get any sound. Speakers have fixed positions in all corners and sides of a virtual cube. This is preferred for Film/TV Post production and Music.

  • The Sized Room mode where we use the physical law of dissipation of sound in air, basically 3dB per meter. In this mode you always get some sound in all speakers, even if very low. Only speakers at an infinite location are muted. In this mode speakers can be freely positioned in a room with real dimensions. This is preferred for installations and live events.
