CD/DVD DRIVE not working - Windows error 39

Problem :

Your CD/DVD drive does not work in Disc Write, but also in Windows
In Windows Device Manager, it is displayed as not working (! or ? sign).  When double clicking on the device, Windows reports error 39.

Solution :

There is an error in Windows registry related to the drive class.
To fix this problem :

Open Windows Registry Editor (C:/Windows/regedit.exe)
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Browse to 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 - double check it is the one for CDROM class
Delete UpperFilters and LowerFilters values (there might be only 1 value, not both on all systems)

Reboot
