Pyramix crash or freeze on Startup splash screen

Pyramix startup is divided into several sequences.
To analyze and fix troubles when starting Pyramix, please note the status indication on the splash screen.

Initializing Virtual Studio

  • MassCore initialization error
    MassCore key is missing, please go in MT Security Panel, and check that you have MassCore 48(Base), MassCore 64-Bit (for all 64 bit versions).
    See if the MassCore engine is running by going in Windows Control Panel > RTX64 : Subsystem must be started.
    Windows must be started with the MassCore boot line.
  • Unable to find MassCore platform or MassCore Ethernet adapter card not found
    The MassCore engine must be running, go in Windows Control Panel > RTX64 : Subsystem must be started.
    Windows must be started with the MassCore boot line.
    The MassCore Network card must be present, go in Windows Device Manager > Network Adapters, Merging Technologies PCIe 82574L Ethernet Controller must be present without any ! or ? sign.  
    The network cable must be plugged on the card and the link active, see on the card itself that LEDs are active.
    The Merging MassCoreNIC service must be running : (type Services.msc in Windows Search field, and verify the status of the Merging Technologies MassCoreNIC service, it must be "Started" (and not "Stopped" or "Starting")
  • MassCore Runtine is not properly configured.  Configuration updated.  Please Reboot the computer
    If after a reboot you still have this message, please see this page for further help.
  • VS3 Manager Interface not present
    Pyramix VS3 engine cannot start : go in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Merging Technologies\VS3 and right on VS3.dll and VS3UI.dll, and access the properties.
    In the Details tab, the file version must match the Pyramix version you have installed, for example 11.0.4.3513 if you have installed V11.0.
    If the versions are not matching, follow the Cleanup procedure and reinstall.
    If the versions are matching, open an elevated command prompt (type cmd in Windows Search field, and right click on Command Prompt > Run as Administrator)
    Paste the following line : regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Merging Technologies\VS3\VS3.dll"  and press Enter.
    Then paste this line :  regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Merging Technologies\VS3\VS3UI.dll"  and press Enter.
    Windows should return that the registration has suceeded.  If not, contact support@merging.com
  • CHostASIO:Error: Unable to init ASIO driver "ASIODeviceName" - Failed to attach to ASIO driver
    Go in VS3 Control Panel, and ensure that the device associated with the Driver name indicated is present and detected by your computer.
    Usually if the Info section only displays 0, the device is not present / not detected properly.

Load Effects - loading VS3 Effects

  • Pyramix hang / freeze
    If Pyramix hangs at that stage, it is probable because your Windows is set to Classic mode (since Pyramix 11, Windows 7 only).

Initializing Libraries
Mounting folder xxx

  • Pyramix is mounting the Global libraries and the folders listed in the Settings > Location > Permanently Mounted Folders list.
    If Pyramix hangs at that state, make sure you don't have an error message displayed behind another window (use ALT+TAB to scroll through the open windows).

VST Plugins Scanning / VS3 Plugins Scanning

  • The first time you scan a new VST plugin, the scanning process can take quite some time, but next time you restart Pyramix, it will be faster.
  • If Pyramix hangs at that state, make sure you don't have an error message displayed behind another window (use ALT+TAB to scroll through the open windows).
    Make sure you Ilok driver (or other authorization device required by your VST Plugins) is up to date.
    If there are no error message, go in Windows Task Manager > Processes (Win7) or Details (Win10) and stop the task VSTPluginScanner.exe.
    This task will try to restart 3 times, and then Pyramix will continue to start.

Initializing Monitor

  • If Pyramix hangs or crash at that state, the Monitor settings might be corrupted.
    MassCore users: Go in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Merging Technologies\Pyramix\VS3UI and delete the VS3UIMonitorSettings.pms file.
    Native users : Go in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Merging Technologies\Pyramix\Native Audio\VS3UI and delete the VS3UIMonitorSettings.pms file.
    (To be able to see the AppData folder, go in Windows Control Panel > Folder (win7) File Explorer (Win10) Options > View Tab and select Show hidden files, folders and drives.

Initializing Mixers

  • If Pyramix hangs or crash at that state, the default mixer might be corrupted.
    Use another Windows user account to start Pyramix (first configure VS3 Control Panel before starting, the configuration is unique for each user).
    Go in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Merging Technologies\VS3 and right click on VS3.dll and VS3UI.dll, then access the properties.
    In the Details tab, the file version must match the Pyramix version you have installed, for example 11.0.4.3513 if you have installed V11.0.
    If the versions are not matching, follow the Cleanup procedure and reinstall.

Initializing Final Check Metering

  • If Pyramix hangs or crash at that state, the Final Check Metering settings might be corrupted.
    Go in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Merging Technologies\FinalCheckMetering and delete the FinalCheckMetering.pms file.
    (To be able to see the AppData folder, go in Windows Control Panel > Folder (win7) File Explorer (Win10) Options > View Tab and select Show hidden files, folders and drives.

Connect Remote Controller

  • If Pyramix hangs or crash at that state, make sure you don't have an error message displayed behind another window (use ALT+TAB to scroll through the open windows).
    If your controller is not connected, you will get a message that it is not detected, therefore please verify that it is properly configured and its driver is up to date (if a driver is required for your controller.)
